Drunken Blog GO!

Quick, before it wears off! What kind of things does one blog about when their bloodstream is full of nihon-shyuu, lychee chuu-hai and White Russians (made with a single drop of milk)? Weird that it didn't hit me till I was halfway home, and even weirder that I felt nothing at all till the White Russian. Damn you, Aaron, for turning me into this beast.

Anyway, I was thinking as I ran today, There goes another week ... what do I have to show for it? The answer was eluding me for a while and I freaked out, but then I thought, "I had a couple Capoeira lessons, I read The Great Gatsby (this took 1.5 evenings), I 'hung out' out with Tomo a few times, I exercised a little .. hmm, that's not very impressive." Tonight made things a little better, though .. originally I was reluctant; this random dude comes up to me in the gym and invites me to some party .. I accepted without really thinking about it, then regretted it this morning when I thought of the other stuff I wanted to do. Turns out to have been well worth it. When I first got there I saw at least 3 other white people and almost went into stand-by mode .. oh shit, it's everyone-bring-a-gaijin-night! But quickly I realized that, even though they all worked for JET, they were actually socially functional human beings I could talk to without feeling like I was dealing with a different species. Plus it helped that they all spoke flawless Japanese, and most of the evening, with the exception of the Karaoke songs, was conducted in 日本語 so I was not forced to level down. I met some cool people tonight, whether it be Katsuki, Hitomi, Kubo, Eric, or Jacqueline (hawt), and that makes everything worth it ... tomorrow I think I'll go to Nagoya with Jacqueline .. also I bought a couple new books today, immediately before it was demanded that I read Shogun and Memoirs of a Geisha (are these both by James Clavell?) Oh well, I've got time. Have a swell weekend.

Can I make a recommendation?

Instead of reading "Memoirs of a Geisha" a work of fiction, try reading "Geisha a Life", by Mineko Iwasaki (with Rande Brown) a work of un-fiction that is completely enthralling.

Also if I may, stop worrying about trying to do as much as possible. Take your time and enjoy yourself...smell the sakura and what not. You're not on vacation there. Regardless of what you've agreed to with Sumi Tomo, you can spend as much time (now that you're in Japan) as you like. After all, how much of what you crammed for in college do you remember now.

Crap, I should have ended that last sentence with a '?'. Don't tell xumbi.

Oh and check out my website where you can learn to make thousands of dollars just surfing the web.

Books about being a Geisha must be enthralling indeed, for all the recommendations they're receiving. (wait, does that make sense? if books about Geisha are recommended to me, do I receive the recommendation or does the book? agh damn it) I'll read the Iwasaki one and Shogun next.

Also, your "not on vacation" comment confuses me .. I'm not on vacation, so I should take my time and enjoy myself? What?? What the hell kind of vacations do you take? You're right, though; I'm not on vacation, so it's time to get out of bed and study study (other things).

Hey, update your blog and give me something to read at work tomorrow!

It's probably just me but when I'm vacationing in a foreign country, I'm more concerned with trying to experience everything rather than relaxing. Afterwards, I need another vacation from the vacation.

> Remember when we swore we'd never drink and/or get drunk?

I don't remember ever verbally swearing that; it was more of a subconscious decision that I could never fully explain, but am more or less glad I stuck with through college (vodka + homelessness would probably have been pushing things a bit). But seriously - Kahlua is delicious.

> you know, you could start suffering more, and lamenting it.

I might!

>when I'm vacationing in a foreign country, I'm more concerned with trying to experience everything rather than relaxing.

Not my type of vacation .. but it's not like I'm sightseeing or anything over here. Just trying to strike that seemingly unattainable balance of socializing and productivity while subtracting 10-11 hours per day for work .. you know how it is.

That's right, Dude, they peed on your f*cking rug.

Kahlua tastes like a dirty sweaty ass. Probably. Not that I'd know what a dirty sweaty ass tastes like. Just that Kahlua is awful stuff. Drink Vodka! GO!!!

So you probably didn't think I read your blog, but on ocassion, I do b/c it provides me some form of entertainment in my not-so-entertaining engineering job.
I've read "Memoirs of a Geisha" and freakin' LOVED it, so much so, that I also just recently purchased "Geisha, A Life" which I have yet to read but will soon.

Also, Kahlua: das schmecht sehr gut.

So this post doesn't really provide much other than my own personal opinion on the giesha books and a yummy alcoholic beverage. I guess those are my 'two cents'.
